Yeah, the guy at the hotel made fun of us when 'walk to the grocery store' was our response to what we had planned for the day. Indeed it sounds dull, but when you are nestled among the peaks of Switzerland in Gimmelwald nothing is dull. The peaks slap you in the face with their vastness at every vista, which is everywhere you look in a 360 degree radius. It was a half hour walk through fields of flowers and cows with bells on their necks and waterfalls and farm houses and the view never ceasing. The grocery store was nestled amongst the cutest town you've ever seen, with the exception of the last Swiss town we just saw and the one we saw before that.
The 100 pictures I took from the first 24 hours of being here may give some insight into my perpetual involuntary grin which has crept onto my face since our plane landed on Swiss soil.
Generally speaking we have found Switzerland to be quite agreeable. The trains are clean, new, on time, safe, and comfortable. The people who are paid to help you actually help you. They even smile at you when they do it. The location of places are marked and are located were they are said to be located. The food is great. The views are unreal. The people are friendly and give normal amounts of eye contact as well as normal types of conversation, with out the weird questions like can I have your shoes and will you buy this book from me. I can understand the native language so I know what people are saying when I walk by, which is usually nothing because we are not out of place. It is refreshing being here.
I am happy. I am at ease. I am in Switzerland; the rugged alps of Switzerland. Add that to my list.
